Results of Thursday's Concord Carlisle Meet

HHS dropped their dual meets last night to DCL powerhouse Concord Carlisle. Despite the setback, the Girls 400 Freestyle Relay Team of Anna Montain, Julie Beauchemin, Stephanie Ydoate, and Molly Curry qualified for the Sectionals with a time of 4:17.53.
On the girls side, CC won 91-66. In addition to the 1st place finish of the 400 Free Relay team, HHS got strong performances from Rachel Dinehart (50 Free and 100 yard Breastroke), Katie Oertel (100 Butterfly and 100 Backstroke), Ariel Holman (50 Free), Kasia McCormick (100 Free), Haley Bouley (500 Free) and Chloe Chen Kraus (100 Breaststroke). The 200 yard Freestyle relay team of Ariel Holman, Jessica Goeller, Brianna Fierro, and Maeve Norton and the 400 freestyle realy team of Hannah Driscoll, Taylor Savage, Meredith Dowd and Cheynna Crowley continue to show improving performances.
The boys fell 88-76. The team was led by Bobby Beauchemin, who won the 200 and 500 freestyle events. Matt Flynn came in 2nd in the 1 meter diving, where the top 3 finishers where witning 7 points of each other. Brady Culver (4th place) and Troy Hutchinson (5th place) also dove well, separated from each other by only 1 point. Patrick Lanciault swam strong races in the 100 yard butterfly and the 100 yard backstroke. Conor Doyle and Sam Wolpert paced Holliston in the 50 freestyle, while Marshall Cohen and Jameson Luskay swam good races in the grueling 500 yard freestyle. Duncan Robertson continues to improve with a strong performance in the 100 yard breaststroke, and David Kriegsman continues to impress in the 100 yard freestyle and 100 yard breaststroke.
Both HHS teams drop to 2-7 on the season. The next scheduled meet is Friday, 1/30 at Wayland HS.
Thanks to the helpers at last nights meet: Pat Montain (where rumor has it that she could not be pried away from Lane 1 timing after her last home meet as a swim parent - we'll be taking applications and holding interviews for that crucial position for next year, unless she is still there), Charlie Ydoate, Suzan Culver, Beth Flynn, Tom and Lynn Oertel, Amy Curry and Bob Lanciault.

Results of Tuesday's (1/20) Meet vs. Dover Sherborn Medfield

The Holliston High School Swimming and Diving Boys and Girls teams lost their Dual Meets against Dover-Sherborn/Medfield Tuesday at Keefe Tech, by scores of 91-74 and 89-72, respectively. Despite the setback, 16 athletes turned in personal best performances, led by Matt Flynn who extended his HHS School Record in the 1 Meter Diving with a score of 274.125.

Personal Bests in the individual events were turned in by the following swimmers:

Katie Oertel in the 500 Free
Kasia McCormick in the 200 IM
Lisa Elkan in the 100 Breaststroke
Stephanie Ydoate in the 200 Free and 100 Breast
Melissa Bennie in the 200 Free

Duncan Robertson in the 100 Free and 100 Backstroke

Conor Doyle in the 100 Free

These personal bests, along with continuous improvements in the relay events and improvements by all athletes, is a reward for the work at practices, and the coaching being received from Brian, Don and Steve Summers in Diving.

HHS Boys and Girls teams both stand at 2-6. The next meet is Wednesday at Keefe Tech at 8PM vs. Concord Carlisle.

Check out the results which I posted on the website. There are a few times that are within reach of qualifying for sectionals – with 3 dual meets and the DCL Championships remaining, there are 4 more opportunities! We have 8 athletes in 4 different events so far in the post season!

Team Pictures were taken by Henry Studios – every kid on the team was there (and lookin’ good!). These pics include the photo for the yearbook, and you can order prints at the banquet if you desire – Henry donates the proceeds from these sales to HABA. They also have action shots from the meet – contact them if you would like to see them as well.

It was great to see every kid at the meet. I spoke with Jim Carboneau, the HHS Athletic Director, who was in the stands and he was pleased to see the performances and improvements of the kids.

Thanks to the volunteers for timing and score-keeping:

Bob Beauchemin, Lynn and Tom Oertel, Pat Montain (Lane 1 expert), Amy Curry, Beth Flynn (she has no choice since I’m doing the recruiting), Suzan Culver, Pat Hutchinson, and Ed Kriegsman – Hope I’m not forgetting anyone!

End of Season Info

I’ve gotten a few questions on what happens at the end of the season, especially with regards to Sectionals and States, and associated practices. I’ve updated the schedule to the best of my knowledge on the website http://www.hollistonhaba.com/pdf_files/Sports/Swimming/Swim_Team_Calendar.pdf - always subject to change ;-)

First, the regular season concludes officially at the completion of the Dual County League (DCL) championship meets, which concludes on February 7th.

There are 4 meets remaining, 2 this week (Tues. 1/20 and Weds 1/21), one next week (Friday 1/30), and the final Dual Meet Monday February 2nd.

The DCL Championships are split in to 4 meets, 2 diving events, and 2 swimming events. Boys Diving only is Weds, 2/4 , while Girls Diving only is 2/5, both at CC at 3:30. Boys Swimming DCL Championship is Friday, 2/6 at 5PM, and Girls is Saturday 2/7 at 10:00 AM, both at the Atkinson pool in Sudbury.

Other than the 500 Free, there are no qualifying standards for the DCL http://www.hollistonhaba.com/pdf_files/Sports/Swimming/08-09_qualifying_standards.pdf That means that Brian and Dom will fill the rosters, but I would guess that most if not all kids will participate in these events.

So, in short, the last day of the season for all kids not participating in Sectionals or States will be Saturday, Feb 7th.

For those kids moving on to sectionals or states http://www.hollistonhaba.com/Pages/Sports/Swimming/post-season-qualifiers.html practice will continue after that. Brian and Dom will work practice times. I would think that for kids not competing in sectionals or states, practice would not be required. But that would be up to Brian and Dom.

Results of Lincoln Sudbury Meet

The HHS boys and girls teams Swimming and Diving Teams lost their meets today to a strong Lincoln Sudbury squad. However, once again, many strong performances were turned in. Freshman Bobby Beauchemin qualified for the Post Season Sectional meet in the 500 yard freestyle, as did the 200 yard freestyle relay team of Stephanie Ydoate, Anna (the Nose)Montain, Christina Belforti, and Molly Curry. Matt Flynn set a new school record in the 1 meter diving with a score of 259.25.

Results of Hopkinton-Ashland Meet

The Holliston Swimming and Diving team competed against a large, strong Hopkinton-Ashland team Friday, January 2nd at Keefe Tech. Despite several strong performances by Holliston, the Boys team fell by a score of 51 to 99, while the Girls team lost a competitive meet by a score of 69 to 95. The Boys and Girls teams both stand at 2-1, with the teams co-ed meet record at 0-2.

On the Boys side, 1st place finishes went to Matt Flynn (1 meter diving) and Bobby Beauchemin (500 yard freestyle - also demonstrating that the team can now count up to 20 ;-) ). Other strong performances for Holliston were turned in by Troy Hutchinson (diving and 100 yd breastroke), David Kreigsman (100 yd breastroke), and Sam Wolpert (200 yd Individual Medley).

In the Girls meet, Julie Beauchemin won the 200 yd freestyle. Strong performances by other Holliston Swimmers included those by Rachel Dinehart and Chloe Chen-Kraus in the 100 yard breaststroke, Christine Belforti and Anna Montain in the 100 yd backstroke, and Molly Curry in the 50 yard freestyle.

A good showing from the team - the combined Hopkinton/Ashland team was huge, and could fill many more slots than HHS could, but strong performances kept the meet competitive, especially in the girls meet.

Lots of good results from the team, with lots of personal improvements in times/scores. Molly Curry swam within 0.5 seconds of qualifying for sectionals in the 50 yd Free, while Bobby B. is on the cusp of qualifying in both the 500 yd freestyle and the 200 yd individual medley.

Team and individual results have been updated on the website (you can now access individual results directly from the results page).

Holliston’s next meet is Tuesday, January 6th vs. Lincoln-Sudbury at the Atkinson pool in Sudbury at 3:30.
