HHS Swimming and Diving vs. King Philip

The Holliston Swimming and Diving Team showed continued improvement in it’s most recent meet – a dual meet held Tuesday, Jan 12th at Keefe Tech against non-league opponent King Philip.
The HHS girls team fell to 1 and 1 (1-0 TVL) 97 – 70. The lone 1st place finish by the Panthers was turned in by the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay Team of Britany Cuevas, Rachel Dinehart, Haley Bouley, and Carolyn Banak. Other notable performances were turned in by the 200 Yard Individual Medley Relay team of Christina Belforti, Stephanie Ydoate, Julie Beauchemin, and Danielle Potemri (just 1.16 seconds shy of qualifying for the state sectional championships). Season Best Team times were turned in by Julie Beauchemin (200 Yard IM), Haley Bouley (500 Yard Freestyle) and Brittany Cuevas (100 Yard Breaststroke. Lisa Paetch also recently made her HHS 1 Meter Diving debut with a solid score of 116.65.
The undermanned Boys team fell to 0-2 (0-1 TVL) with a 95 to 74 loss. 1st place finishes where turned in by Peter Skarmeas (100 yard backstroke), Cody Veidelis (100 Yard Breaststroke), Matt Flynn (1 M Diving), and the 200 yard freestyle relay team of Evan Vasilauskas, Marshall Cohen, Connor Doyle, and Matt Flynn. Other notable performances were turned in by Troy Hutchinson (personal best 158.95 in 1 Meter Diving, 1.05 points shy of State Sectional qualifying score), Ryan McGee (teams season best time in 200 yard Individual Medley), Evan Vasilauskas (team seasons best time in 50 yard freestyle), and Cody Veidelis (teams season best time in 100 yard breaststroke.
At this meet, nearly every HHS swimmer improved their times for a season best, showing the training and practice they have been putting in this season is paying dividends, not only for the team but also for individual performances. With 2 weeks before the next HHS meet (Jan 26 vs. Mansfield at Wheaton College), the team plans to continue training with hopes to further improve their personal bess and qualify swimmers and divers for post Season Sectional and State Championships held in February.
