TVL Meet Prelim results

Official results and times from the TVL meet haven’t been sent out yet, so I can’t update any information yet, But my sense from watching everyone was that there were a lot of good performance.

What I do know is that it seems that those kids that were on the cusp of qualifying for post season times did. Here is what I understand for Post Season

• Christina Belforti improved her previous sectional qualifying time in the 100 Yard Backstroke to also qualify for States

• Matt Flynn won the TVL Diving Championship with a Personal Best and new HHS 6 Dive School record of 321.15 – a 40+ increase in his previous best. Matt is also a State Qualifier for HHS

For Sectionals:

• Troy Hutchinson culminates his HHS Diving career by qualifying for Sectionals in 1 M diving. Troy took second in the TVL with a personal best of 191.05, and qualified his 11th different dive.

• The girls 200 Yard Freestyle Relay and the 400 Yard Free Relay both qualified for sectionals. So with these results, Steph Ydoate and Carolyn Banak have both become Sectional Qualifiers.

So here are the Participants for this weekend’s Sectionals:

Boys

Matt Flynn
Troy Hutchinson

Girls

Julie Beauchemin
Stephanie Ydoate
Christina Belforti
Rachel Dinehart
Danielle Potemri
Brittany Cuevas
Carolyn Banak

Great job by these swimmers, as well as Brian and Charlotte for helping them achieve their goals, and mixing up swimmers across the relays to get multiple kids into the sectionals!

Having worked and scored diving, I do know that Lisa Paecht came in 3rd in the TVL diving, with an outstanding score of 167.1 This is a Sectional qualifying score – outstanding for a 1st year diver. Next year, Lisa will certainly have 11 dives required for her to be in sectionals, and I’m putting my money on her for states as well!

A clarification to some questions I heard yesterday. Hopkinton came into the meet with TVL Champions T-shirts. This raised some eyebrows, as it seemed presumptuous before the TVL meet was even held (DSM, BTW, would up winning last night in a tight race over Hopkinton – our 2nd place girls relay team was the difference in the meet – if Hopkinton had come in 2nd instead of us, they would have won the meet).

However, here is the official explanation – I spoke to Jim Carboneau about this. Hopkinton is the season TVL Champion. League rules declare the champion only based on the regular season. The TVL meet is just a qualifying meet – it allows kids to see how they stack up across the league and allows them to qualify for sectionals and states, but has no bearing as a team in the league championship.

So, indeed, Hopkinton is the official TVL Champion.
